When buying store bought baby foods a parent runs the risk of feeding their babies excess starches, sugars and preservatives. But that is not the extent of it, the baby food can often times be tainted by pesticides. Many parents are making their own baby food instead of buying pre-made factory jarred brands.
When you have discovered whether or not your baby has an allergy or is free of allergic reactions to certain foods you can then combine veggies, meats, rice, noodles, etc. to make a ‘meal’ for them. It is best that you make the baby whatever it is that you are eating so that they feel a part of the family at meal time.
As the baby grows and is able to eat chunkier foods you can blend it to match the consistency that the baby requires in its food. Also, when feeding the baby solids for the first month, parents can mix a little breast milk or formula in with the food as it is blending. This makes it extra smooth and creamy while also offering a familiar taste to encourage the change from liquid to solid.
Freezing the baby food is another simple process. By labeling freezer safe containers (ie. “Carrots’, ‘broccoli’, ‘peas’, etc.) and storing inside frozen pre-made portions life can become much easier for parents. Use an ice cube tray and fill with pre-blended foods. Freeze and when they are completely frozen place them in the labeled containers to keep track.
Homemade baby foods can last in the freezer for up to two months. Because they are already portioned into cube size it makes feeding fast and easy and it can fit any appetite as you simply add to the meal as the baby grows. Making baby food at home has never been easier and more and more parents are enjoying the cheaper and healthier way to feed their baby. Remember, baby food lasts only 24 hours in the refrigerator.
