breastfeeding myths

uncovered

 Myth: It hurts!

Fact: When baby latches on well, it doesn’t hurt. If you feel pain, try a position adjustment. If pain persists, contact your doctor for help.

Myth: I don’t have enough milk.
Fact: Almost every mom can make enough milk. If your baby is feeding 8 - 12 times in 24 hours and having at least 5 wet diapers a day, then you are likely making enough milk. If baby’s growth is slow, call your doctor before giving formula which will reduce your milk supply.

Myth: People will stare at me.
Fact: If you are uncomfortable breastfeeding with others around, you can speak to other breastfeeding mothers and get some helpful tips from them. If you can locate a discreet corner or restroom wherever you are, don’t hesitate to use them. If you carry a blanket with you, you can drape that over your shoulder and your baby’s head while their nursing and no one will be the wise.

Myth: It will ruin the shape of my breasts
Fact: Pregnancy causes the changes in breast shape and firmness, not breastfeeding. Breastfeeding helps you get your old shape back because it uses up fat.

Myth: I’m going back to work - time for formula!
Fact: Perhaps it’s time for a bottle, but it’s up to you whether you put expressed breast milk or formula in that bottle.
